What Are Motorsports?

Everyone likes to watch a certain sport. Besides watching, sports fans like spending their free time on sites such as bet-bonus-code.ie. There are those who are more into watching matches or races live, while some like to do it from their armchair. Also some people prefer watching team sports to individual ones. Team sports often take the blame from an individual and make it so that the entire team can take the blame, or even the team’s coach or manager. Sometimes, glaring mistakes put individuals in the spotlight, but these would be rare occasions.

Individual sports are also interesting, where we cheer for an individual athlete, and measure them by their success or failure in that very match.

However, this is true for traditional sports. In motorsports, almost everything is a team effort (albeit, so is in regular sports). However, what would these motorsports be? Is it just racing with a motor, or does it have to be racing at all?

Let us take a closer look.

Motorsports – A Brief Overview

Motorsports, briefly, cover all sorts of sports and competitive events which include vehicles with a motor. They are typically governed by two bodies, the FIA and FIM, where the first covers four wheel racing and the second, two wheel racing. But, there is also a third governing body, the FAI, which covers acquating racing. Yes, watersports also include motorsports, or rather, they are intertwined.

These are the broad definitions, however, motorsports have their own areas, which are different to one another, depending on the type of racing.

Open Wheel Racing

Everyone knows open wheel racing as Formula 1, albeit that is the most popular type of open wheel racing. Formula has many other classes, like Formula E, which uses electric formula cars. Open wheel racing also has its own counterpart in the United States called the IndyCar Series.

Open wheel racing is dangerous and really fast, faster than most other types of racing.

Enclosed Car Racing

As opposed to open wheel racing, closed car racing is a bit safer, although it depends on the race, entirely. Enclosed car racing is aplenty and covers everything from sports car races, touring car races to the most popular, stock car racing. Among the many enclosed racing types is also off road or dirt racing, which is another very popular type of racing. It is also known as rally racing.

Motorcycle Racing

Motorcycle races are aplenty, and cover anything from Moto GP, the Formula 1 equivalent in motorcycle racing. There is also motocross racing, which means motorcycle racing but on dirt tracks. Supercross is motocross with steep drops and dangerous climbs. Motorcycle races are aplenty, but only a couple are really as popular as you would expect.

Water Racing

Among the many water racing sports, motorsports take only a few of the entries. Motorboat racing is the first thing that comes to mind, and is one of the legitimate motorsports in water. This doesn’t mean that it’s the only one, however, not many are as popular or widely contested as motorboat racing is.

Other Motorsports

There are plenty of motorsports, from airplane racing, truck racing, snowmobile racing, drone racing, hovercraft racing, to even go kart racing. One only needs to take a pick and they can compete in motorsports. Even things such as remote controlled cars are among the many motorsports.

Motorsports cover multiple sports where racing is the primary method of competing and the tool one uses to race is a motorized vehicle. It is a broad term that covers everything from remote controlled vehicles to Formula 1 racing.
