In 1969 Cadillac introduced its all-time masterpiece: beautifully new and completely restyled with a different grille, longer hood and contemporary rear deck. Distinctively Cadillac, this model united traditional dignity with a youthful styling that was unique in the luxury car field. While every line and contour had been redesigned for a longer, sleeker look, there was no mistaking that it was the art of Cadillac stylists.
The 472 V-8 engine - the largest production V-8 ever to power a passenger car - had been refined for even more impressive smoothness, dependability and quiet. The power brake system included front disc brakes as standard equipment on all models, and pedal effort had been noticeably reduced. Another new feature was a General Motors developed, theft-deterrent steering, ignition and transmission lock system, as well as a ventilation system that eliminated the need for vent windows and thus permitted a longer and sleeker look for Cadillac’s new roof design. Both air-flow and heating and cooling capacity were significantly increased to permit prolonged idling in congested traffic or parking with Automatic Climate Control on, without overheating the engine.
Interiors were the most luxurious in Cadillac history, with opulent new fabric patterns and leather textures. Its passenger privacy and unusual roominess made the Fleetwood Limousine the aristocrat of motor cars and the standard of excellence in motoring.
